Green tomato spice pickles

10 pounds medium green tomatoes
1 qt vinegar
1 box whole whole cloves
8 C sugarRecipe
Peel tomatoes and boil in salted water until barely tender. Drain and stick 2-3 cloves into each, depending on size. Make a syrup of the sugar and vinegar by boiling together until thickened. pour syrup over tomatoes and let stand overnight. In the morning bring all to a boil and seal in hot sterilized jars.
