1/3 C butter
2 1/2 C powdered sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 T orange juice
1 T orange zest
1 tsp lemon zest
1/4 C candied orange peel
1/2 C candied citron
1/2 C candied lemon peel
4 C flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp white pepper
1 tsp anise seed
1 tsp nutmeg
1 T crushed cardamom
3/4 salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking sodaRecipe
Cream butter and sugar. Add rest of ingredients and mix lightly. shape into balls about 1 inch in diameter and place on waxed paper. Chill overnight. In morning brush tops with egg white mixed with 1 T cold water and 1 tablespoon powdered sugar. Bake 15 minutes in moderate oven.
