1 C milk
1/4 C sugar
1 cake yeast
3 C flour
1/2 pound butter
3 eggs
1 tsp cardamom
1/2 C raisinsRecipe
Soak yeast in 1/2 C warm milk. Bring rest of milk to a boil. Stir in 1 cup of flour.and the sugar while still hot. Let cool and when lukewarm add the yeast mixture. Let sit 1 hour.
Cream butter and add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. add to flour mixture and stir in cardamom. Add the rest of the flour and continue to beat until well blended. This should be quite stiff, yet soft enough to pour into a greased pan. Add raisins and rise to doubled in bulk. Brush with thick cream, sprinkle with sugar and bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.
