French Dressing

List of Ingredients
1 C salad oil
1 C vinegar
1 C sugar
1 C tomato sauce (see note)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp grated onion
1 tsp dry mustard powder
1 tsp whole cloves
Recipe
Mix all ingredients together. Chill over night. Place in jars or bottles. Shake well before using. This dressing keeps well for several months. If you don't want that much french dressing on hand, divide it in half and make 1000 Island by adding 2/3 C mayonnaise, 1 chopped pickled egg (or Hard boiled), and 2 tblsp sweet pickle relish. This is more perishable because of the mayonnaise.
Note; the original recipe called for tomato catsup but it was awfully sweet.
Var; you can also use 1 tsp paprika and 1 tsp chopped parsley.
