List of Ingredients
2 C sifted flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/3 C lard
1 yeast packet
1/2 C warm water
3/4 C buttermilk
Recipe
Sift together dry ingredients, work the lard in as for pastry. Add the buttermilk and yeast dissolved in water. Stir well.
Roll dough out on a floured board to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds the size of biscuits.
Let rise to double.
Bake at 375 degrees F. on well greased cookie sheets for 20 minutes.
These can also be cooked on a griddle (350 degrees F.) 10-15 minutes. turn over and cook 10 minutes.
When cold, tear apart as you would an english muffin, Toast under the broiler, butter and serve with jam.
