1 3/4 C light cream
1/2 pint evaporated milk
1 1/2 C sugar
1 T gelatin dissolved in 1/2 C cold water
pinch salt
1 T vanilla
Recipe
This mix does not have to be cooked, but the results will be more desirable if ingredients are mixed and cooked in a double boiler at a temperature of 145 to 150 degrees and then cooled before freezing, according to manufacturers directions.
Yields about 2 quarts.
Variations.
Chocolate chip, to mixture for 1 gallon of vanilla, add 3 1/2 C of grated semisweet chocolate. Stir in the chocolate only after the mix has been partially frozen.
Raspberry, To mix for 1 gallon of vanilla, add 5 ounces of crushed raspberries, Stir in fruit only after mix has been partially frozen.
