    Recipe Introduction

Swear to god, as it was written !
Put half a cup of dry breadcrumbs in a bowl and pour over them three cupfuls of milk into which two eggs, either fresh or reconstituted, have been whisked. Leave to stand for a quarter of an hour. Peel and chop a small onion and fry golden brown. Mix this with the crumbs and milk. Now add a pound of raw minced beef and three ounces minced raw bacon. season with a spoonful of salt and a half teaspoon of pepper and then work the mixture with a wooden spoon until it becomes quite smooth and holds together. Grease an oven dish and shape the meat into a long rounded loaf on the dish. Brush it over with a little milk and sprinkle with crumbs. Put in a warm oven and after the shape has browned pour a little boiling water around it and baste every ten minutes. A shape this size will take about an hour to cook and will be more than enough for four people. It is also excellent eaten cold and can be cut into quite thin slices and even used as a sandwich filling.

[I'm going to say 350 Degrees F. works best. 375-400 was to high.] L.K.L.
