Norwegian Dessert Cake- (Norwegian Kake)

1 C sugar
1 C butter
4 eggs, separated
5 T milk
34 C sifted flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
Recipe
Cream butter and sugar thoroughly, then add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Pour batter in 2 layer cake pans and spread with meringue. Sprinkle 1/2 C grated almonds over meringue and bake about 35 minutes at 350 degrees F. Serve with whipped cream between layers and on top.
Meringue;4 egg, whites stiffly beaten, 1 cup confectioners sugar, added 1 tablespoon at a time.
