    Mesquite Bean Cakes

    Source of Recipe

    Native American
Gather the mesquite beans when they are very ripe. Spread them out in the sun until they are dry. Find a stone about 12 inches long and very narrow. grind the beans with the stone on another stone until it is like bead flour. Sift the flour to get all the hulls and trash. When you have as much as you will need, pour just a little water in it and stir, then set it out in the sun to dry a little. Then mix in enough water to make a stiff dough. Cut the dough into little cakes and set out in the sun until very dry. Then they are ready to be eaten, or stored for future use.
