    Calamus, flagroot, myrtle, myrtle flag, sweet grass, sweet rush, sweet sedge. Blue Flag-not edible, leaves are dull and bluish green, (Tennesse state flower) also called poison flag.

    Sweet flag is common in damp places. It is spicey and pungent and has glossy yellowish green leaves. Amaracana is the one to use. does not contain beta asarone. Northern can be imports and do not have a fruit. Induces hallucinations if you eat too many.

    Cut tender bases of stalks into thin slices. Parboil in several changes of water, to moderate-strong taste. You can also simmer it, barely covered in a simple syrup until most of the sugar has been absorbed. Drain and dry apart from one another, for several days.
