    List of Ingredients




    1 pound hamburger, (see note)
    2 large onions, chopped
    1/2 cup celery, diced
    1 cup sliced mushrooms
    2 tablespoons shortening
    1/4 cup catsup
    1 cup tomatoes
    1 cup water
    1 teaspoon chili powder
    salt
    pepper
    2 tablespoons tapioca

    Recipe



    Melt shortening and add hamburger, onions, celery and mushrooms. Cook until golden brown. Add catsup, tomatoes, water, chili powder, salt and pepper to taste. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Add tapioca and cook until thickened. Serve on toasted rolls.

    Note; Hamburger back in the fiftys was made up of one pound ground beef to one half pound of ground pork.
