1 1/2 C milk,scalded
1/2 C butter
1/3 C sugar
1 tsp salt
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cake compressed yeast, dissolved in 1/4 C lukewarm water
2 C flour
1 C seedless raisins
1/3 C chopped citron
1/2 tsp powdered cardamom
2 1/2 C flour
Recipe
Combine the first 7 ingredients and beat until light and bubbly.
Add the next 4 ingredients and knead well. Place in a greased bowl and set in a warm place to rise. Knead once, let rise until doubled and form into small rolls and let rise until light. Brush with melted butter. With sharp knife cut a cross through top on each roll. Bake 15-20 minutes at 375 degrees F. Cool slightly, then make a cross with white icing.
