2 tablespoons shortening
21/2 pounds beef, cut in 1 inch cubes
21/2 cups water
1 cup minced onion
2 teaspoons salt
1 small head cabbage, wedged
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
8 potatoes, cut in fourths
8 carrots, cut in halves, lengthwise
Recipe
Melt shortening and brown meat in large heavy kettle. Add water, onion, salt, pepper, vinegar and celery salt. Cover and cook until meat is nearly done. Add potatoes, carrots and additional liquid if necessary. Put cabbage on top to serve separately. Cover and cook until vegetables are tender.
