    List of Ingredients




    1 beef marrow bone cut in half
    1 pound beef, in cubes
    flour
    4 1/2 quarts water
    1 C barley
    1 bay leaf
    1 onion, chopped
    3 sliced carrots
    2 celery, sliced
    1 small potato, cubed
    salt
    pepper
    4 sprigs parsley, minced

    Recipe



    Boil the marrow bone in the water until the marrow shrinks from sides of bone. Pull thee bone from the water and cool a little. Remove the marrow from the inside of the bone and place in a fry pan. Add oil if necessary.
    Dredge the meat in some flour and add to fry pan, sprinkle a little more flour over and brown on all sides. Add bay leaf to water with the meat and pan drippings. simmer 1 hour. Add the barley and cook according to package directions, depending on barley used. 20 minutes from when you added the bay leaf, remove it. (add cubed cabbage here if desired).
    Add carrots half an hour before cooking time is done. About 15 minutes later add the potatoes, celery and parsley. Thicken if necessary. Adjust seasoning (salt and pepper). Add bouillon if needed.
