Red Cabbage and Apples

3 C finely shredded red cabbage
2 C sliced tart apples
3 C boiling water
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
3 T sugar
1 tsp salt
3 T lemon juiceRecipe
Combine cabbage, apples, water, nutmeg and cloves. Simmer uncovered 20-25 minutes, just until tender. Add sugar, salt and lemon juice just before removing from heat. Serve hot as a side dish or cold as a relish.
