Malted Chocolate Chip Cookies
These are SO GOOD!! I urge everyone to try this recipe. You won't be disappointed! BTW, I used the Hershey bars cut into chunks. And I found the malt powder by the drink mixes like Hershey's chocolate milk powder, etc. The brand I found was Carnation. They also have a chocolate flavor that might also be good in these, but I used the regular flavored. They don't have a strong malt flavor, but it must add something good to these cookies because they turned out so well! I got this recipe from Taste of Home, but it originally called for 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks and 1 cup of milk cholate chips.
List of Ingredients
1 cup butter flavored Crisco
1 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup regular malted milk powder
2 Tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chunks OR milk chocolate mini kisses OR chopped Hershey bars (about 4 1/2 to 5 bars)
Recipe
In a mixing bowl, combine shortening, brown sugar, malted milk powder, chocolate syrup, and vanilla; beat for 2 minutes.
Add egg and mix.
In a small bowl mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
Stir in chocolate chips and chunks.
Shape into 1 1/2 to 2 inch balls; place about 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 14 minutes or until golden brown. (See note below)
Cool for 2 minutes on pan before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
Yield: approx. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 dozen
NOTES : These brown faster on regular cookie sheets as opposed to air-bake sheets. I think I liked these better baked on the air-bake sheets. Also, the amount of time they are baked depends on how big you make them.
