    Oreo Chunk Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

This is basically a chocolate chip cookie dough with Oreo chunks in place of the chocolate chips. Yum! This makes a huge batch of cookies.

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/2 cups unsalted butter -- softened (3 sticks)
    1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar
    1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
    2 large eggs
    4 cups all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 3/4 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
45 Oreos, broken into third or fourths -- (1 full package of Oreos)

    Recipe

    Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix butter and sugars until smooth. Add vanilla and eggs and mix until combined.

Stir or mix in flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar.

Stir in oreos by hand (it look like there will be too many oreos, but the amount is fine in the end).

Using your hands, take a scant quarter cup of dough (approximately) and form it into a ball (I used a cookie scoop). Place dough on cookie sheet and flatten slightly. You don't want to flatten it too much, you just don't want it to look like a ball. Form all the cookies this way, and space them 2 inches apart (at least) on a cookie sheet.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown (since mine were smaller, I baked about 10 to 10 1/2 minutes). Cool slightly: remove from baking sheet. Cool on wire rack.

    Makes about 40 large cookies

    NOTES :
I used unsalted butter and kept the dough chilled between batches. And I tried to get away with only using 2/3 of a bag of Oreos, because I didn't want to open another bag. The dough looked like it had plenty, but there weren't enough oreo chunks in the baked cookie. So I went ahead and added more Oreos to the dough. So I would suggest following the recipe and using the whole bag of Oreos. I broke them into fourths and made my cookies smaller by using a cookie scoop. So I got a lot more than 40. They almost filled 2 gallon size ziploc baggies.
