4 Can dinner for 2
Recipe Introduction
This is an example of what you can do with a few tins and the liquids they come with.
List of Ingredients
- 1 tin Ravioli (needed), I tin Pork & Beans (needed)
- 1 tin Green Peas (needed)
- 1 tin Wax beans or other beans (needed)
- Green pepper or other veggies (needed)
- 1 box kraft dinner (needed)
- Olive oil (needed)
- Onion powder (needed)
- Garlic (needed)
- Vinegar (needed)
- Black pepper (needed)
Instructions
- The main course of this dinner will be fried Ravioli's.First we must wash the raviolis as we remove them from the tin, and KEEP the sauce in the tin.
- Fill a medium bowl with a half a cup of water. One by one remove the raviolis from their tin and give them a small bath in the bowl. Place each in a fry pan with a little olive or other oil and a garlic clove. Fry gently.
- DO NOT discard any sauce at the bottom of the ravioli tin, you should have a couple of tablespoon fulls of the thick stuff from the can.
- Open a can of pork and beans and place them in a colander. Take another medium bowl and proceed to wash the beans of their sauce by pouring the bowl of 'ravioli bath water' onto the colander of beans. Continually switch bowls as you pour the liquid from one bowl to the other bowl via the colander of baked beans. What you are doing here, is making a soup base out of the bowl of liquid. Continue pouring the ravioli 'juice' through the beans in the colander until they appear to be clean of sauce. (as best you can but don't get into too much detail). Remove the small bits of pork fat from the beans and add them to the ravioli in the fry pan.
- Rinse the baked beans in the colander under a tap of cold water, and place them in a clean bowl for your bean salad.
- Open the can of seasoned wax beans or green beans and put the liquid from this can in the bowl with the baked bean/ravioli juice. Put the beans in the bowl with the washed baked beans.
- Next, open a can of green peas and add liquid to the bean ravioli juice. Add 3 tablespoons of green peas to the bowl of washed baked beans. Transfer the rest of the peas to a pot and add 'Ravioli juice' bowl of liquids to the pot as well. Next, open a box of Kraft dinner and boil macaroni elbows in a separate pot, keeping the cheese powder for other uses in other recipes.
- Bring the soup to a mild boil and add the cooked macaroni elbows when done, if you have any leftovers or ground meats, you may choose to add them to the soup for additional flavouring. By now your fried Ravioli's should be done on one side, turn them carefully.
- Add 3 tablespoons of vinegar to the bean mixture and toss lightly. If possible add some fresh green pepper or chopped onion. Dust with a little black pepper and onion salt. Refrigerate until cold.
- Once your ravioli is done, you may wish to transfer them to a bed of rice soaked in the leftover sauce that was in the bottom of the original tin. Heat Ravioli sauce (you should have about 1/8th cup)in a bowl in the microwave for less than a minute. You can also add a couple of teaspoons of Kraft cheese powder to this sauce and pour it over rice or use as a dip for raviolis if you do not wish to use rice.
- You now have a pot of Tomato/Macaroni/Pea soup. Should you not wish to eat it all you may choose to boil it down and use the next day as a base for a tuna macaroni salad. Or, do both, have some as a soup. Then reserve the rest as tomorrows macaroni tuna salad by separating the soup from the beans macaroni and peas. You can also spoon out the peas and macaroni and use them as a side dish for your ravioli.
Final Comments
These recipes are a bit bland on purpose due to the lack of spices at the food bank. You can also choose to add your own flavourings to enhance these meals.
