    Stained Glass Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    Auntie

    List of Ingredients

    3 tbsp butter
    1/2 c packed brown sugar
    1/4 molasses
    1/3 c water
    3 c flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 salt
1/4 tsp EACH: cinnamon, nutmeg, & ginger
1 (5.75 oz) bag hard candies - sourballs work the best

    Recipe

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, brown sugar & molasses until smooth. Blend in water. Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, & spices. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Blend well. Cover & chill for 1 hour. Cut out different Christmas shapes. Trace on to aluminum foil. Roll pieces of dough into ropes about ¼" wide. Outline designs (that were traced onto foil) w/ ropes of dough. Press ends lightly together. Separate
candies by color. (Do not mix candies thinking you will make colors, since this will not work - just makes "yucky" colors) In a blender or food processor, coarsely crush candies. You may also do this w/ a metal meat mallet in a plastic baggie. Fill in dough outlines w/ crushed candies. Bake at 350° for 4 to 5 minutes or until cookie is set & candies are melted. Cool on baking sheet. Makes 4 - 5 dozen cookies.

    *Happy Holidays*
