    24 ounces canned tomato sauce
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/4 cup Red Wine Vinegar
    3 tablespoons Worcestershire
    1/3 cup golden brown sugar, packed
    2 tablespoons honey
    2 teaspoons dry mustard
    1 teaspoon chili powder
    1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
    1 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/8 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
    1/2 cup water

    To prepare barbecue sauce, mix tomato sauce, onion, garlic, vinegar, Worcestershire, brown sugar, honey, mustard, chili powder, salt to taste, lemon, and liquid smoke (if desired), in a 3- to 4-quart pan with 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Notes:
    Sauce can be refrigerated up to 1 week.
