1/4 cup butter
1/8 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. paprika
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. sugar
3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 tbsp. chopped parsley
2/3 cup light cream
Recipe
Cream butter with cayenne, 1/4 tsp. salt, and paprika in a small bowl.
Add flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar to a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening until the mixtrue resembles coarse crumbs. Add grated cheese and parsley. Add light cream alll at once; stir until dough follows fork around the bowl.
Divide dough in half. Roll each 1/4 inch thick into a 10x14 inch rectangle. Spread with half of butter mixture. Then roll as for jelly roll, starting from the 14-inch side. Slice rolls into thin rounds about 1/4 inch thick. (I used dental floss wrapped around the roll, then pull the string as if tying it to cut the slices evenly)
Bake on ungreased baking sheet in oven at 425° for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
