    BBQ Steak & Tomato Oregano Sauce

    List of Ingredients

    4 beef strip steaks, cut 1/2 inch thick,
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1 small onion, chopped
    1 400g/14oz can Italian peeled tomatoes, drained, chopped
    2 t chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1/2 t dried
    2 garlic cloves, chopped
    Pinch of hot pepper flakes

    Recipe

    Pound steaks between two pieces of wax paper or plastic wrap until flattened to 1/4 inch thickness. Brush with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper.

    In a medium saucepan, heat remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook 2 to 3 minutes, or until softened. Add tomatoes, oregano, garlic, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and hot pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and cook 7 to 8 minutes to blend flavors. Cover and keep warm.

    Light a hot fire in the grill or preheat broiler. Grill or broil steaks 3 inches from heat for 2 minutes. Turn and cook 1 to 2 minutes more being careful not to overcook. Spoon sauce over beef.
