dried pinto beans
salt
pepper
butter
> chopped onion
> minced garlic
> bacon, cooked & crumbled
> chopped green chiles
> red pepper flakes
> cumin
> cilantro
Recipe
Soak beans overnight. Drain, place in large kettle with about 3 or 4 times as much water as beans. Bring to boiling, reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender, about 2-3 hours. Add salt and pepper; mash a few times with potato masher. Melt butter in large skillet, add mashed beans and any or all of the other ingredients you like. (for that matter, NONE of the other ingredients is necessary, if plain is more your style).
