6 yams, cooked and peeled
6 tart apples, peeled
1/2 cup butter
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp cornstarch

Cut yams and apples into 1/2 inch thick slices. Layer in buttered 3-quart DEEP casserole, starting with apples and ending with yams.
Combine butter and water in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Mix sugar and cornstarch, adding just enough water to make a paste. Add to boiling mixture, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, remove from yeat. Pour over yams.
Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes, or until apples are tender.
