Sweet Potato Chess Pie

1 deep dish pie crust
1 1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. self-rising cornmeal
1/3 c. milk
3 whole eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. mashed cooked sweet potatoes
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. clovesRecipe
Cream sugar and butter together until fluffy. Add cornmeal, milk and eggs, 1 at a time. Add flavors; mix well. Pour into unbaked pie shell.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Pie should be well browned and a knife inserted about 1" from the edge should come out clean. Pie will be shaky in center but will set when it cools. Let stand 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
