Brownie Trifle

1 (19.8-ounce) package fudge brownie mix (mine was slightly larger and it didn't matter)
1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional, but I used)
2 (3.9-oz.) packages chocolate fudge instant pudding
1 (12-oz.) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
8 (1.4 oz.) chocolate-covered toffee candy bars, coarsely crushed Recipe
Prepare brownie mix according to package directions in a 13x9-inch brownie pan. Prick top of warm brownies at 1-inch intervals with a wooden pick; brush with coffee liqueur, if desired. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into 16 pieces and crumble when completely cool.
Prepare pudding according to directions, omitting chilling. Layer half of crumbled brownies brownies in a 3-quart trifle bowl or dish; top with half of pudding, half of coarsely crushed candy bars, and half of whipped topping. Repeat with remaining brownies, pudding and topping. Cover and chill 8 hours or overnight. Garnish with remaining crushed candy bars.*
*Laurel's note: I did my 2nd layer exactly like the first and then crushed 3 more candy bars for the garnish.
