Cranberry Trenton Dessert

3 cups chopped cranberries
3 cups chopped tart apples
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/3 cup light brown sugar -- firmly packed
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup instant oatmeal
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup sifted flour
2 tablespoons crushed corn flakes
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup chopped nutsRecipe
Combine cranberries, apples, cornstarch, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and vanilla. Pour into a buttered 11-in. x 7-in. baking dish. Mix together oatmeal, 1/2 cup brown sugar, flour, corn flakes and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly; stir in nuts. Sprinkle evenly over top of cranberry mixture. Bake in moderate oven (350') 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm or cold. Top with whipped cream if you wish.
