    8 glazed doughnuts [Trademarked_Name_1 preferred]
    6 eggs
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    3/4 cup all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    Pinch of salt
    4 large firm cooking apples (Granny Smith preferred)
    2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans
    Whipped cream or ice cream, optional

    Heat oven to 325°. Butter a 9x13 baking dish. Tear doughnuts in bite-sized pieces and place in prepared baking dish. Beat eggs with sugar and vanilla, blending well. Thoroughly combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Peel and slice apples and place the apples and nuts evenly over doughnuts. Pour batter over all. Bake 45 to 50 minutes. Let cool until only warm. Top with whipped cream or ice cream as desired.

    Makes 10 to 12 servings.

    NOTE: You also may use other fruits in season such as cherries, nectarines, or peaches.
