Beer Battered Shrimp w/Jalapeno Sauce

1 1/2 lbs unpeeled jumbo shrimp
40 vanilla wafers
1 c slivered almonds, toasted
1 1/4 c all-purpose flour
1 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 large egg
1 c beer
Vegetable oil
Recipe
Peel shrimp, leaving tails intact. Devein if desired. Process vanilla wafers and toasted almonds in food processor until finely chopped. Remove 1 cup mixture and set aside remaining mixture. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; add egg and beer, stirring until smooth. Dredge shrimp in 1 cup crumb mixture, dip into batter, and dredge again in crumb mixture. Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 350F.
