500gr/1 pound tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1 cup apple cider
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Recipe
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine apples, cider, and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes or so to prevent scorching.
Add cinnamon and allspice; continue to simmer for 20 minutes.
To test whether or not it's ready, spoon a small portion onto a plate. If a liquid ring forms around the edges, continue to simmer the mixture and test again in 5 minutes. If no liquid ring forms, remove from heat.
Serve warm on a slice of bread. Keep remaining apple butter refrigerated.
