3 cups thinly sliced cucumbers
1 cup thinly sliced onions
2 Tbls. salt
1 1/4 cups white vinegar
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. dill seed or dried dill weed
1 dried hot pepper (optional)
1/4 tsp. turmeric
1/4 tsp. mustard seeds
1/4 tsp. celery seeds
Recipe
In a large bowl, put cucumbers, onions and salt. Cover with a layer of ice cubes. Let stand for about 2 or 3 hours.
In a large heavy saucepan, bring to a boil the vinegar, sugar, and spices. Drain the cucumbers and onions and add to vinegar mixture in the pot and heat just until boiling. Put in a glass jar or bowl, cover and chill thoroughly, stirring occasionally.
