Recipe Link: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-fdcooking&msg=6177.1List of Ingredients 7 pounds cucumbers -- sliced 1/8" thick 2 gallons cold water 2 cups hydrated lime *see note 2 quarts vinegar 9 cups sugar 1 teaspoon celery seed 1 teaspoon whole cloves 1 teaspoon pickling spice 1 teaspoon salt *You can get hydrated lime at feed and seed stores, make sure you tell them it is for making pickles.Recipe Combine cold water and lime in large, non-metal bowl or crock, add cucumbers and let stand for 24 hours, stirring several times to circulate lime. Drain and rinse in cold water several times until all the lime is off. Cover with fresh cold water and let stand for 3 hours. Drain. Make syrup of remaining ingredients. Pour cold syrup over drained cucumbers and let stand overnight. Cook syrup and cukes together for 35 minutes, then ladle into hot jars and seal. Process in water bath 5 minutes for pints, 10 minutes for quarts. Makes about 7 quarts or 14 pints.
