1 lb. ground beef, cooked & drained
1 large chopped onion
3/4 head shredded cabbage
2 tbsp. granulated beef bouillon
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
cayenne to taste
4 splashes worcestershire sauce
bread dough as needed
cheese slices (optional)
Recipe
Add onion, cabbage & seasonings to browned beef and cook until cabbage is tender. Be generous with the seasonings unless you like them bland.
One half recipe of Quick Yeast Buns (recipe below) will make about 12 burgers, or use two loaves of frozen bread dough (thawed).
Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into twelve 6" squares. Place about 1/2 cup meat mixture slightly off-center of each square; fold one half over the other - corner to corner making a triangle - and pinch firmly all around edges to seal securely. Place about 2" apart on greased cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter and allow to rise about 15 minutes. Bake at 375° for about 20 minutes, or until golden.
If a cheese "burger" is desired, fold one slice of cheese in half, making a triangle, and lay it atop top the meat mixture before sealing the edges securely. Place on baking sheet with cheese side up so it melts down into the filling as it bakes.
Quick Yeast Buns:
2¼ tsp. active dry yeast
1/3 cup dry milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
1½ cups all purpose flour
3 tbsp. melted shortening
1 cup warm water
2 well-beaten eggs
1¾ cups all-purpose flour
Combine first eight ingredients and blend until smooth. Knead in remaining flour and mix with electric mixer or dough paddle. Let rise until double in bulk; continue as instructed for krautburgers.
