List of Ingredients
1/2 Cup barley
1/2 Teaspoon dried whole basil
1/2 Cup dried split peas
1/4 Teaspoon dried whole oregano
3 beef bouillon cubes -- crushed
1 bay leaf
1/4 Teaspoon ground black pepper
Combine the ingredients in a small bowl, and store in an airtight container.
Beef Vegetable And Barley Soup
Serving Size : 8
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Pound lean stew meat -- cut in 1" cubes
1 Package Beef Vegetable and Barley Soup Starter Mix
6 Cups water
14 Ounces chopped tomatoes
3 carrots -- chopped
3 Ribs celery -- chopped
Recipe
In a large stockpot, heat the oil and add the meat cubes. Saute until the meat is browned on all sides. Add the water, tomatoes, and Soup Starter Mix. Bring the mixture to a boil, and reduce the heat. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the celery and carrots. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Discard the bay leaf.
NOTES : It can be made into a vegetarian soup if you substitute vegetable bouillon for the beef bouillon and omit the stew meat. A chicken soup can be made by substituting chicken bouillon and 1 pound of diced chicken meat for the beef
