    1/2 stick butter, cut into slices
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2 carrots, chopped fine
    2 celery ribs (include leaves). chopped fine
    2 or 3 jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped
    1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
    1/4 teaspoon pumplin pie spice
    1 can (15oz) solid pack pumpkin
    3 cans (14 oz ea) chicken broth
    1 cup heavy cream
    salt and pepper, to taste

    In large soup kettle, melt butter. Add onion, carrot, celery and jalapeno. Cook, stirring often, until onion is clear. Add crushed pepper, pie spice, pumpkin and broth to onion mixture. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Remove from heat.

    Puree in batches in food processor until smooth. Pour pureed mixture back in soup kettle; add cream. Stir just until blended. Add salt and pepper, if desired. Serve warm.
