    Fried Green Tomatoes

    List of Ingredients

    1 large egg, beaten with a little water
    dash of salt
    splash or two of tabasco
    3 or 4 green tomatoes, sliced no less than 1/4 inch thick
    couple handfuls of soft bread crumbs
    one handful yellow cornmeal
    oil, butter, bacon drippings or combination for frying

    Recipe

    Add salt & tabasco to beaten egg; combine crumbs and cornmeal in a shallow dish. Heat oil, etc., in skillet. Pat tomato slices dry with paper towels and then dip into egg, dredge in crumbs/cornmeal. Saute until breading is crispy and deep golden brown.

    To make gravy from drippings, blend in 2 tbsp. flour until smooth and cook 2 - 3 minutes. Add 2 cups milk, continue cooking until it thickens, stirring constantly. Season with salt & pepper to taste. Ladle over tomatoes if desired.
