2 tbsp. bacon drippings
4 cups shredded red cabbage
2 cups diced unpeeled apple
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup water
1¼ tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. caraway seed
dash of pepper

Heat drippings in skillet; add remaining ingredients, cover tightly and cook over low heat - stirring occasionally - for 15 minutes (crisp cabbage) or 25-30 minutes (soft cabbage).
