1 6lb10oz can of Ground Peeled Tomatoes
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 large onion chopped
6 cloves of garlic
2 cups dry red wine
salt & pepper to taste
about 1/4 cup fresh basil (chopped)
Recipe
In a large sauce pot just cover bottom with olive oil and heat, add chopped onion and let cook till soft and minced garlic and just let that cook about 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and bring to a gentle boil, add wine and let cook on pretty high for about 5 to 10 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar, salt, pepper and a wee pinch of crushed red hot pepper flakes. Add the basil and let simmer for about 25 minutes.
**This sauce is great just like that but if you want to make meatballs, I fry the meatballs to brown them all around and add them to the sauce. I then cook them for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Also the WINE is key!!!! What flavor it adds.
