Golden Raisin & Dried Cranberry Soda Bre

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup plus 2 teaspoons sugar
4 tablespoons cold margarine or butter, cut up
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 9" by 5" metal loaf pan.
In large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, baking soda, salt, and 1/2 cup sugar. With pastry blender or two knives used scissor-fashion, cut in margarine or butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. With spoon, stir in raisins and cranberries, then buttermilk just until batter is combined.
Spoon batter into loaf pan. Sprinkle top with 2 teaspoons sugar. Bake 50 to 55 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center of loaf comes out clean. Cool loaf in pan on wire rack 10 minutes; remove from pan and finish cooling on wire rack.
