    French Toast with Strawberries

    3 tbs. butter, plus butter for spreading
    4 eggs
    1 tbs. almond extract
    ½ cup heavy cream
    3 tbs. Frangelico
    1 tbs. nutmeg, grated
    Juice of 1 orange
    4 slices brioche or challah
    1 cup brown sugar
    ¼ cup slivered almonds
    1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and washed
    2 tbs. superfine sugar
    ½ cup crème fraiche
    Orange zest, grated
    Chocolate shavings

    Melt butter in medium skillet over medium heat. Beat eggs in bowl with almond extract, cream, Frangelico, nutmeg, and orange juice. Soak bread in mixture and cook until browned in skillet. Let cool.

    Pre-heat broiler. Slice bread into thin sticks, butter, and roll in brown sugar and almonds.

    Place on foiled baking sheet and broil in oven until bubbly, taking care not to burn.

    Serve with sliced strawberries and crème fraiche. Sprinkle with zest. Garnish with chocolate shavings.
