    Illinois Monkey Puzzle Bread
    .

    ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
    ½ cup boiling water
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 package dry yeast
    1/2 cup lukewarm water
    1 egg
    3 cups flour
    Melted butter for dipping

    .


    Combine butter, boiling water, sugar, and salt in bowl. Cool. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Beat egg and add to yeast mixture. Add yeast mixture to butter mixture. Gradually add flour.

    Mix thoroughly. Cover and let rise 1 hour. Punch dough down. Roll out on floured surface. Cut into various shapes. Dip each shape into melted butter and place pieces into tube pan. Let rise about 1 hour in a warm place. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake 35 minutes. Cool about 5 minutes and turn out.
