    Bread, Raisin Date

    Recipe Introduction

From "The Family Cookbook", # 15

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/3 cup chopped dates
    • 1/3 cup raisins
    • 1/2 cup honey
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup margarine
    • 1 egg, beaten

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour an 8x4 inch loaf pan.

    2. Sift the dry ingredients together. Stir in the dates and raisins.

    3. Combine the honey, brown sugar, milk and margarine in a heavy saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently until sugar is dissolved and margarine is melted. Pour onto flour mixture. Beat until thoroughly blended. Stir in the beaten egg.

    4. Spoon into pan and level surface. Bake for 1-1/4 hours until well browned and firm. Cover with foil if necessary to prevent over browning.

    5. Cool for 5 minutes. Loosen edges and remove from pan. Cool on wire rack.

    6. Serve sliced with butter.
