    List of Ingredients




    1 cup butter or margarine

    2-1/2 cups sugar

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1 egg

    1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon water

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1/4 cup molasses

    3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    Recipe



    1. Melt butter; cool to room temperature. Combine butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and egg in a large mixing bowl; beat well at medium speed of an electric mixer.

    2. Combine water and soda in a small bowl, stirring until soda dissolves; add soda mixture to creamed mixture, beating well. Stir in molasses and flour.

    3. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls, 3 inches apart, onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 7 to 9 minutes. Cool cookies completely on wire racks.

    Yields 8 dozen cookies
