1 pound lean ground beef
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons mustard
2 teaspoons mild curry powder
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 cup soft white bread crumbs
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg, beaten
Vegetable oil, for cooking
Recipe
1. Put the beef, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, curry, salt and bread crumbs in a bowl and mix well.
2. Heat the oil in a saucepan, add the onion and cook 5 minutes, until soft and lightly colored. Remove from heat and stir into beef mixture. Add beaten egg to bind the mixture and stir thoroughly. Between floured hands, roll the mixture by teaspoonfuls into about 30 balls.
3. Preheat oven to 225 degrees F. Heat a little oil in a large skillet; add half the meatballs and cook gently for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain well on paper towels and keep hot in the oven while cooking the remaining meatballs.
4. Pile the meatballs onto a warmed serving dish and serve at once on a bed of savory rice. Chutney goes well with this dish.
