3/4 pound beef sirloin steak, cut 1 inch thick
1 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings
1 tablespoon cooking oil
2/3 cup barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar
4 hoagie buns, split and toasted
4 slices Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno peppers or Monterey Jack cheese
Fresh chili peppers (optional)
Recipe
In a large skillet, cook onion in hot oil over medium-high heat about 3 minutes or till tender. Add beef strips. Cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes or to desired doneness.
Stir in barbecue sauce and lemon juice or vinegar. Cook over medium heat till heated through, stirring occasionally. Spoon beef mixture onto hoagie bun bottoms. Top with cheese slices and then bun tops. Serve with fresh chili peppers, if desired.
