- Dough:
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk
- 7 cups flour, 1 cup while kneading
- Filling:
- chicken or pork
- 1 large onion
- butter
- salt
- sugar
- soya sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200. Mix as for bread dough. Let rise in warm oven for 5 minutes, the let dough rise 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Cut off dough into desired size, wrap around desired filling (sweet or savoury) and rise again. Steam about 20 minutes. Makes about 88 siopao.
- Filling: Cook meat by boiling it; cool and dice. Sauté onion and chopped meat in butter. Season to taste with salt, sugar, and soya sauce. The siopao may be frozen, then resteamed until heated through.
