Taco Seasoning Mix

Recipe Introduction
I have used this recipe over and over because the taste is the exact same taste you'd find by using the store-bought Taco Seasoning Spice. This way, I make a recipe which keeps in a jar, and I use the mix a few Tablespoons at a time, and it is more economical than the store mixes.
List of Ingredients
- 1/4 cup instant mincd onion
- 3 TBSP Chili Powder
- 2 TBSP ground Cumin
- 2 TBSP salt (or you may want to omit it)
- 1 TBSP crushed hot red pepper flakes
- 1 TBSP instant minced garlic
- 1 TBSP cornstarch
- 2 Tsp dried Oregano, crushed well
Instructions
- Blend ingredients in mixing bowl. Spoon 6 equal portions into mini envelopes or small bags; seal. I personally prefer keeping the entire mixture in a sealed jar.
- When ready to use, follow these instructions:
- Brown 1 pound (500 grams) ground beef or turkey in skillet. Drain fat.
- Sprinkle 1 envelope of seasoning mix over meat, or 1-2 TBSP from the jar. Stir to blend.
- Add 1/2 cup water and 1-2 TBSP Ketchup.
- Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until water has evaporated.
- Spoon meat mixture into taco shells and serve with desired toppings.
Final Comments
Excellent flavor, hard to tell it is home-made and not store-bought.
