    List of Ingredients




    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    1/3 cup buttermilk, or water
    1 egg
    2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 3/4 cups flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup chopped nuts, optional
    Browned Butter Frosting
    1/4 cup butter
    2 cups powdered sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 tablespoons half and half, approximate


    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Mix sugar, butter, buttermilk, egg, chocolate and vanilla. Stir i flour, baking soda, salt and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire racks.

    Browned Butter Frosting

    Melt butter over low heat until golden brown, remove heat. Beat in powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and about 2 tablespoons half and half until smooth and of spreading consistency.

    Note: If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
