    2 1/2 cups split peas
    1 1/2 cups extra lean ham -- diced
    1 tablespoon reduced-calorie margarine
    1 tablespoon oil
    2 whole carrots -- peeled and diced
    1 medium potato -- peeled and diced
    1 whole onion -- diced
    4 cups water
    2 cups fat-free chicken broth
    to taste salt and pepper

    Recipe



    Sauté diced onion in butter and oil until golden. Place onion and the rest of the ingredients in a crockpot, cover, cook on medium for 8-10 hours. Time may be slightly longer at higher altitudes.
