    Butterscotch Brownies

    1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    3/4 cup all - purpose flour
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips, optional

    Preheat the oven to 350. Grease and flour an 8 x8 inch pan, or line with non stick aluminum foil. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat; remove from heat. Stir in sugar, then egg.
    Combine baking powder, salt and flour; stir with a whisk to combine. With a wooden spoon, stir into butter mixture. Stir in vanilla and nuts.
    (Batter will be thick) Spread in the prepared pan. Bake 20-25 minutes, or until lightly browned, and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out almost clean. Cut into bars while still warm.

    A great recipe- sweet, chewy and quick to prepare
